Supporting projects

EDeAN does not receive financial aid from the EC. The network’s activities however, since its establishment in 2002, have been supported by a number of EC-funded projects.

The Coordination Action “Design for All for eInclusion” (DfA@eInclusion, contract number 0033838) runs from January 2007 to December 2009. It is the main supporting project of EDeAN, aiming to contribute towards the advancement of eInclusion in Europe through fostering design for all. All EDeAN NCCs are members of the DfA@eInclusion consortium. DfA@eInclusion will continue, extend and enhance previous efforts targeted to the creation of a sound Design for All (DfA) interdisciplinary theoretical framework of reference and a set of proven engineering practices, by addressing the following strategic objectives:

  • Support to existing European initiatives to promote Design for All and in particular the European Design for All eAccessibility Network (EDeAN);
  • Enhancement of existing partnerships between academic, research, user, and industrial communities to promote e-inclusion through adopting and promoting effective DfA practices;
  • Facilitation of DfA knowledge spill-overs across industry sectors and communities through appropriate mechanisms for knowledge transfer;
  • Support the mainstreaming of accessibility in IST products and services through a series of dissemination activities.

The consortium fully supports the EDeAN networking platform and finances most its new technical features. Please visit http://www.dfaei.org for more information.

During the period 2003 – 2005 EDeAN has been supported by two EC-funded Thematic Networks which are now successfully completed:

  • IDCnet (http://www.idcnet.info) - Inclusive Design Curriculum Network (IST-2001-38786) focused on the development of a model curriculum for Design for All
  • D4ALLnet (http://www.d4allnet.gr)  - Design for All Network of Excellence (IST-2001-38833) supported the creation of an infrastructure and discussion fora for the work of EDeAN.
